The speech of PhD Kiros Abeseloms deals with the possibilities of decentraliszed self-sustaining housing concepts by renewable energy technology and discuss the opportunities of knowledge-transfers between Cologne/Germany and Africa to realize such independend self-sustaining concepts.
His searching for new alternative solutions for the well known "problem-sector" of the so-called foreign aid follows the motto: "Do not aid the people with fishes but show them how they can catch the fish by theirselves."

He studied economy- and social history, economy- and social geography as well as Anglo-American History at the University of Cologne. He received his PhD in social science at the University of Cologne and Osnabruck. By doing business, he is an all-rounder and works as a promotor consultant environmentalism and renewable energy. At the end of the 90's, he invented a modern solar-driven rikscha for two passengers as a prototype and received the patent in 2001. Today, he works on the script of his new book which will be published in autumn 2012.

 Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu"Trade not Aid" – The New African Development Paradigm "Africa is poor because it is not free" (George Ayittey, Ghanaian economist) Some 50 years after the so-called independence from colonialism, Africa looks more colonized than before. David Karanja, a former Kenya Member of Parliament, spoke out what many young African intellectuals have in mind when he said, “In fact, foreign aid has done more harm to Africa than we care to admit. It has led to a situation where Africa has failed to set its own pace and direction of development free of external interference. Today, Africa's development plans are drawn thousands of miles away in the corridors of the IMF and World Bank. What is sad is that the IMF and World Bank "experts" who draw these development plans are people completely out of touch with the local African reality” (New African, June 1992; p. 20). On corruption, the African Union report from August 2004 noted that Africa lose an estimated $148 billion annually to corrupt practices - a figure which represents 25 percent of the continent's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The UN estimate, $200 billion or 90 percent of the sub-Saharan part of the continent's gross domestic product was shipped to foreign banks in 1991 alone. Africans want African solutions for the African problems but the politically correct system makes it difficult. The Western presumption of Africans who do not know what is good for them and foreign donors who knows better is provoking more and more anger across the content. The colonial view out of the 19th Century doesn’t work any longer. China, the new global player in African, understood the needs of African and is following the African desire for more trade than aid. The West is still sleeping. Africans want to be commanders of their own destinies not colonial and neo-colonial subjects and permanent apprentices. Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu is a 36 year old Germany-based Gambian film and theatre arts practitioner with over 20 years experience in the media and creative arts industry. He started out as journalist working for The Point Newspaper (Gambia), Voice of America English To Africa Program, BBC Focus on Africa,Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) as News and Current Affairs Producer before relocating to Germany in 1998 where he studied digital film and animation before starting his film and stage career. In 2008, after gaining practical experience in various projects, he started Afromedia Film and the Television International Group B.S. e.K and its labels of SANKANURA AFIRIKISOBE FILMWORKS and SANKANURA PRINCIPALITY STUDIOS to produce, promote and distribute African and Africa-related motion pictures and allied creative arts contents worldwide as an actor, producer, director, distributor and industry strategist. He organizes the bi-annual Opposite of Europe (Jenseits von Europa) African Film Festival in Cologne, Germany, together with his associates of the Filminitiativ Köln e.V.. In addition to film works, Prince Sankanu is also featured in various high profile theatres arts projects including “100 Prozent Koeln” by the award-winning Rimini Protokoll performance arts group. Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu is a naturalized German citizen and an active member of Die Piratenpartei Deutschland / Cologne district. As a social-liberal humanist and democrat, he follows his social commitment and works on indigene people and threatened minorities. In the village of Sotuma Sere in Gambia/Westafrika, he ignitiated a vocational school project as a sign against the roots of illegal immigration into the EU. |

 Allerweltshaus in Köln"Bildung, Begegnung und Aktion" Den Allerweltshaus Köln e.V. gibt es seit 1987. Als private Initiative von engagierten Einzelpersonen gegründet, betreiben wir seit über 20 Jahren ein selbstverwaltetes interkulturelles Begegnungszentrum in Köln-Ehrenfeld und machen entwicklungspolitische Bildungs- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit. Durch Auseinandersetzung mit den Folgen der Globalisierung möchten wir dazu beitragen, Probleme im weltweiten Zusammenhang zu diskutieren. Wir treten ein für solidarisches Handeln mit sozialen Bewegungen hier und in den Ländern des Südens. Dabei erarbeiten wir nicht nur an vielfältigen eigenen Projekten, sondern bieten auch anderen engagierten Organisation, Initiativen und MigrantInnenselbstorganisation einen Raum ihre Projekte zu verwirklichen. Here as everywhere else, the main questions of production also deal with a higher effectiveness and efficiency within the world of offices. Even though it is possible to automate a lot by the use of technology, technology means nothing without a culture of a respectful interaction with one another in dealings. Thus, he conclused that the more self-control there is, the more intrinsic motivation for creativity and innovation there will be - if it's based on cooperation.  PhD Wolfgang Stoecker"Der Stöcker" was born in 1969 in Bergisch Gladbach and spent his early live in the meadows in the west of Cologne since 1972. Apperently, his early interest in architecture was ignited somewhere between these cornfields and construction sites. Later, he discovered the interest in fine art. Wolfgang Stoecker is a graphic artist designs temporary arichtecture objects which even found their way into the museum. Wolfgang Stoecker also organizes extraordinary guided tours in Cologne:  By founding the German Dust Museum, he found his way to combine art and history. Als thematisch abgegrenztes Beispiel lässt sich am Thema "Energiewende" sehr gut illustrieren, welchen Herausforderungen sich Deutschland auf allen Ebenen stellen muss und wie die klassische, zentralistisch fokussierte Energiewirtschaft der großen Energieversorgungsunternehmen an seine Grenzen stößt und neue dezentrale Lösungen von kleinen agileren Unternehmen präsentiert bekommt. Noch spannender wird es, wenn man im nahen Umfeld eines Stadtviertels nach interdisziplinärer Zusammenarbeitsmöglichkeit sucht und hier neue Zusammenarbeitsfelder kreiert, die durch den lokalen Zusammenhang wirken und erfolgreich sind.  Martin Schmittseifer"JACK IN THE BOX e.V." Martin Schmittseifer, Jahrgang 1968, aufgewachsen im pietistisch geprägten Umfeld im Oberbergischen und diplomierter Sozialarbeiter macht eine Fahrradfahrt durch den Köln-Niehler Hafen, vorbei an gestapelten Modulbau-Raumelementen und Seecontainern. Währenddessen kommt ihm beim Radeln die Vision eines Arbeitsförderungsprojektes, bei dem arbeitslose Menschen Seecontainer in stylische Räume und Gebäude für eine dem Gemeinwohl dienliche Nutzung verwandeln. So kam es 2006 zur Gründung von JACK IN THE BOX e.V., für den er seitdem als geschäftsführender Vorstand tätig ist. Der Verein wurde "von der grünen Wiese weg" durch 7 Menschen mit und ohne Job, als parteipolitisch unabhängiges Zwitterwesen aus Beschäftigungsträger und Arbeitslosenselbsthilfe gegründet, soll heißen: es wurden, und werden bis heute, Ein-Euro-Jobs angeboten für Menschen mit "besonderen Vermittlungshemmnissen" (Amtssprache) und das Struktur schaffende Stammpersonal bestand in 2006 zu 75% aus unmittelbar zuvor langzeitarbeitslos gewesenen Menschen mit besonderen Vermittlungshemmnissen. Ein Grundgedanke, der zur Gründung führte, war die Überzeugung, dass das brachliegende Potenzial eines Bruchteils von 50.000 arbeitslosen Menschen in Köln - einmal wachgeküsst - viel zum Gemeinwohl im Sinne einer nachhaltigen Quartiers- und Stadtentwicklung beitragen kann. Der Ausbau von Seecontainern zu hochwertigen Räumen, die im Sinne des Gemeinwohls genutzt werden sollten, war ein Grund für das Wort "innovativ" im Vereinsnamen. Die Beschäftigung mit dem "Upcycling" von Materialien und Gegenständen, die aufgrund von Aus- oder Abnutzung nicht mehr im ursprünglichen Sinne gebraucht wurden - meist ebenso Behältnisse wie der Seecontainer - folgte diesem innovativen Geist. So kommt es heute zum "Upcycling" von Ölfässern, Spinden, Obstkisten, Milchtüten, etc. Um die Ziele zu erreichen, wurden viele offene Schnittstellen zu anderen kreativ handelnden Menschen und Institutionen, insbesondere zur Kunst- und Kulturwirtschaft geschaffen. Begünstigt durch den attraktiven Standort auf dem ehemaligen Güterbahnhof in Köln-Ehrenfeld startete in 2007 der Kulturbetrieb mit Kino, Theater, Konzerten, Lesungen, Podiumsdiskussionen, Kunst- Design- und Architekturausstellungen. Seit 2011 finden regelmäßig die beliebten Nachtflohmärkte statt, die letzte Ausstellung zum Thema Upcycling im Rahmen der Designwoche Passagen 2012, lockte 1.500 Besucher in die Halle. Aktuell engagieren sich über 15 Menschen aus vielfältigen Berufsfeldern, die aus der Arbeitslosigkeit den Weg zum Verein gefunden haben, für die Weiterentwicklung des Experiments JACK IN THE BOX. Nach dem unmittelbar bevorstehenden Teilumbau der Räumlichkeiten wird der Kulturveranstaltungsbetrieb in 2013 zum Regelbetrieb werden. Das Mediafestival "NEW JACK CITY - Spielplatz der Visionen" zur plan12-Biennale weist die Richtung für einen neuen inhaltlichen Schwerpunkt. JACK IN THE BOX versteht sich als Teil einer vielfältigen und kooperativen Basisbewegung, die an Gegenentwürfen zur dominanten, Nachteil produzierenden Konkurrenzwirtschaft arbeitet.  |

 apl. Prof. Dr. Niko Paech"Postal Growth Economy – A concept for the future" The long preserved hope that economic growth can be formed sustainable or climate friendly by technical progress crumbles. Furthermore, a system trimmed on permanent economic expansion seems to be no guarantor for stability and social security. Not only the escalation at the finance markets and the debt crises point this fact out, but also the shortage of those very resources ("Peak Everything") on whose abundant and cheap availability the industrial wealth model has been based up to now. Additionally, the so-called "happiness research" feeds the findings that, from a certain level of income, an increase of the monetary income does not lead to a further increase of the subjective well-being. Consequently, it's time to check out the conditions and possibilities of a postal growth economy which is the result of a succinct back construction of globalized economy patterns based on the division of labour and monetary objectives. Instead, sufficiency and urban subsistence economy will play a gigantic role as a supplement of a noticeably diminished and simultaneously restructured industrial system. The average consumer will become a sovereign "prosumer" who will contribute reactivated subsistence resources (e.g. trade) to the commonweal. Beyond that, the postal growth economy will be marked by settledness, thus fortunately without kerosene.  |
